The Best place to live in the UK
A Guide to Ilkley
What to do in Ilkley, Yorkshire.
Here is a list of some of Our Favourite Places in Ilkley.
Our Beautiful neighbours, Georgie, Gaz & Pipe started Community Cutlery from their home in Ilkley in 2020 when Gaz started sharpening knives for locals through lockdown, having spent some time mastering the skill of wet stone sharpening.
They have then expanded into selling knives from all over the world as well as beautiful objects for the kitchen & home.
We opened our Ilkley shops together, with a shared doorway at Thirty One Leeds Road in July 2021 & haven’t looked back since. We love working opposite them, Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 5pm.

The best coffee in Ilkley hands down. We are very lucky to have our shop and studio directly opposite Toast House. Natasha & Lisa opened Toast House over 9 years ago & its been constantly popular since then. It was one of the reasons we settled in Ilkley!
Serving beautiful coffee from North Star Roastery based in Leeds, Yorkshire.
They have a selection of homemade cakes & healthy lunches as well a selection of handcrafted homewares & kitchen essentials.

Friends of Ham
Friends of Ham Ilkley opened in 2015 serving up the highest quality charcuterie, cheese, natural wines & craft beer. A beloved spot for locals and visitors alike, beautifully designed, it manages to be both stylish and homely at once. No mean feat! Also boasts the best olives in town.

Art School Ilkley
Founded in 2019 by Sarah & John Gamble, Art School Ilkley offers immersive, hands-on classes for children and adults, wanting to expand their creative vocabulary. Sarah has a background in textile design and a long career as an art teacher in Bradford schools, and John a background in fine art. The pair of them are such a treasure to the community, we’re very lucky to have them here. They often host life-drawing sessions in informal environments, so do keep an eye on their website if you’d like to drop in and give it a go!

Cooper Spoon Cakery
The BEST cakes in Ilkley! Handmade by the very talented, self taught owner & baker Alice Pearson. Alice has a keen eye for contemporary designs, and manages to create cakes that are beautiful and impressive without being overstated. For celebrations of all occasions, Alice’s cakes are highly sought after. Alice offers delivery & collection in Ilkley, Ben Rhydding, Addingham, Burley in Wharfedale and beyond. Alice also joined us upstairs at Thirty One Leeds Road to host wedding consultations, as if we needed any more excuse to eat her cakes!
We might be biased, but we believe we have one of the best bookshops in the UK here at The Grove Bookshop. One of the best-known independent booksellers in the North of England, they have been selling books on The Grove since 1979. They play a massive part in the community, holding regular author events for adults and children, and being the official booksellers for the annual Ilkley Literature Festival. Their carefully curated selection is deeper and more esoteric than you might expect to find in a little town like in Ilkley; you’d struggle to find yourself bored browsing the stacks here. If they don’t have what you’re after, they can order any book in print!

Ilkley Cinema boasts state of the art projection and sound equipment, nestled in a relaxed, comfy and homely theatre. With just two screens, you’d be surprised at the incredibly eclectic programme of screenings here, with a healthy mix of blockbuster releases, indie flicks and kids hits on a Saturday morning. They even go above and beyond with their food and drink, serving fresh tea and coffee to your seat, locally brewed beers and snacks from local suppliers.

Just two doors down from us here on Leeds Road, is Lishman’s, one of the UK’s finest independent butchers, family run for 35 years. Founded by David Lishman, recently joined by his daughter Emma, Lishman’s is multi-award winning for its sausages, pies and home-made salami. David grew up on a farm in nearby Harrogate, where his family raised pigs and turned them into bacon and hams, his father also learnt how to cure every aspect of the pig from a German butcher working the land as a POW in WW2, and they use his methods to this day. Their heritage, and respect for land and animals is apparent in every aspect of the business, we love having them here in Ilkley.
23-27 Leeds Rd, Ilkley LS29 8DP
Founded in January 2016, the award-winning Ilkley Kitchen began as a monthly stall at Real Food Ilkley, before growing into a business that supplies local cafes and restaurants, and a weekly stall on The Grove, Ilkley. Marcella is one of the most passionate people you’re likely to meet, and to have a moment to chat with her on a Saturday morning, stocking up on quiches, cakes and pastries is one of our favourite parts about living and working in Ilkley!
